Air Conditioning (AC) & Heater Repair

Unlike auto air conditioning, the ventilation and heater system is standard in most autos.

Air is taken in through a duct at windshield base, the “flow through ventilation system” directs air through the heater core prior to distributing it to the inside of the auto through the vents in the dashboard. Vents in the rear of the vehicle serve to remove stale air from the auto’s interior while driving. The heater core acts like a small radiator that is part of the cooling system. The engine coolant that is heated warms air directed through the heater core. The auto’s interior air temperature is changed by regulating the coolant flow and by mixing colder air from the outside. Automatic or manual controls then are used to adjust the temperature and air flow inside the vehicle.

The air conditioning system in the auto operates in a very similar manner to those that cool households and other buildings. Freon (or another gas) is commonly used and is placed into a sealed system. The freon is heated as a result of being pressurized by a compressor. When pressurized the freon then moves to the condenser where it gives off its heat to a flow of cool air before condensing to a liquid. The liquid is then moved to a receiver-dryer tank where excessive fluid is kept and water is removed. The liquid in the receiver-dryer tank then moves to the expansion valve and is metered into the air conditioning system’s expansion valve in the auto. The cooled, high pressurized liquid then expands into a low pressure, cold gas. The evaporation process is what then provides those in the vehicle with a nice cool flow of air during the hot summer months.

If your need of automotive repair service includes your vehicles cooling and heating system, be aware that the purpose of the engine’s cooling system is to remove excess heat from the engine, to keep the automotive engine operating at its most efficient temperature, and to get the automotive engine up to the correct temperature as soon as possible after starting.

Ideally, the automotive cooling system keeps a car’s engine running at its most efficient temperature no matter what the automotive operating conditions are. We offer many automotive services to repair any auto heating and cooling problems.
Air Conditioning Service includes visual inspection of A/C components, A/C performance test which monitors A/C Pressure, add up to 1 lb. of Freon, install leak detection dye to check for leaks in system.
